”In case Utah’s easy access, lack of crowds, and great snow isn’t enough, connecting seven resorts and 18,000 skiable acres on one pass would offer skiers an experience like nothing else in North America.”
“In principle, we stand behind any ski experience that involves more skiing and less driving. A thoughtfully considered, low-impact plan to connect the central Wasatch resorts, one that takes into account the needs and desires of all recreational users, could be of great benefit to Utah’s ski and outdoor industries and to the millions of visitors the Wasatch sees every year.”
“There may be a way to connect these resorts but in doing so, it has to be rational, part of other permanent protection plans, and take into account the millions of dispersed recreationists that visit the Wasatch backcountry across all seasons for a multitude of physical and emotional reasons.”
“Connecting seven major Utah resorts – including some of the most iconic mountains in the ski world – would transform the sport of skiing in both Utah and the United States. Linked together, the Wasatch resorts would be akin to the classic European model of interconnected ski areas: think of Trois Vallees in France (Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens) or the Arlberg region of Austria (St Anton, Lech, Zurs, Stuben and St. Christoph). These are vast regions with a huge variety of slopes, villages and ski lifestyles, and Utah would join their ranks as a magnet for skiers attracted by the ability to do a European-style ski safari with a single pass. By adding public transportation that links the mountains to Salt Lake City’s airport, Utah’s capital would emulate Zurich and Geneva. Simply put, by promising endless skiing and transportation that’s highly efficient and green, Utah might well become the country’s number one ski destination.”
“More is not always better. But connecting seven resorts, if done appropriately, to create 18,000 acres of skiing on one lift ticket advances the sport, should provide a nudge to get more skiers and riders on the slopes, and certainly will create a buzz in the marketplace.”
“One Wasatch would catapult Utah into the category of a true international destination. It will be one of those situations where the sum of the whole is far greater than the parts…a game changer.”
“For years, people have dreamed about connecting the four Cottonwood Canyon resorts with the three resorts in Park City. Done right, this will boost Utah’s economy and put smiles on the faces of skiers, snowboarders, environmentalists and resort owners. After decades of wishful thinking, it is time to make this dream come true.”
“Connecting our world-class resorts has long been an incredible idea, and one that would truly differentiate skiing in the Wasatch from all other North American destinations.”
“For years it has been the opinion of the Park City Chamber/Bureau that interconnectivity between resorts is the best way for Utah to capture more market share and create a platform for important product differentiation. This idea holds the promise of solidifying our destination as the preeminent American ski experience.”
